Expat Community in Gran Canaria

You can find Expats all over the island. Specially many retired foreign nationals live in the big resorts in the south of the island. (Playa del Inglés, Puerto Rico, etc.)

But since the approach of online workers during the COVID restrictions you will find a very big community in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

As many of them work remotely and they are used to meet in online groups, Facebook Groups etc. to help with information. Just search for groups of your interest and language. The communities are friendly and some of them also organize social gatherings.

For local business people it is usual to work with a Gestoría (bureaucracy agency) or Asesoría (business consultancy) to handle paperwork and tax filings.

It’s really not worth the time to do it yourself.

But finding an agency that speaks other languages than Spanish could be challenging.

Gran Canaria airport

The airport (LPA) is very well connected with direct flights to over 100 destinations.

From the airport you have to calculate 30 min to the city of Las Palmas and also to the popular tourist destinations in the south of the island.

You can choose between rental cars, autobuses (GuaGua) for 3 - 6 euros or a Taxi which will cost between 35 - 40 euros.
